Doobie the Mighty Dachshund

Doobie is a rescue dog. He came into my life two Christmases ago when he was two. About seven months ago in February he had an accident and slipped a disc in his spine. The cause for the injury was unknown but severe. Doobie lost feeling in his hind legs and was unable walk. This blog is about an emotional and physical journey for my dog Doobie and myself. The following story is an inspirational one for many. Doobie has touched the hearts of every person he has come in contact with over the past two and half years I have had him. It is also to try and inform people that putting your animal to sleep is not the only option you have. I wasn't very keen on the idea of having a dacshund, I had never been a fan of them. I especially did not want a male dog. Hiking on everything in the house and marking their territory was just not on my "want" list for a dog. I had been hinting around for while that I wanted to get a dog, I was living with my boyfriend at the time and it was my first time in a place without a dog. I knew I wanted a small dog, but I expressed my feelings towards Dachshunds and male dogs plenty of times assuring that I would receive neither if I were to get a dog. That christmas my gift from my boyfriend was a male dachshund, you can imagine my excitement. This was not what I had in mind for a pet, but it felt good to rescue an animal from a shelter. I decided to name him Doobie, after the band The Doobie Brothers of course. Next: The Injury
